Brace yourself minimalist. The baroque trend
that was all over Fall/Winter
2012-2013 runways is now filtering into stores in the
form of heavy embroidery, gold threads and rococo prints. Heavily inspired by the
yesteryear, baroque has been revived by the likes of Oscar De La Renta,
Alexander McQueen and Dolce & Gabbana. And with these designers taking the
lead, we are sure to follow.
The Baroque Period is an artistic
movement that began in Italy in the early seventeenth century and spread
throughout Europe, affecting painting, sculpture, music, literature and
architecture. Baroque style is characterized by dramatic adornment, exaggerated
motion, extravagance, drama and grandeur.
Just like the Baroque
era itself, this trend is all about romanticism, extravagance, indulgence and
opulence. Think pieces in lush luxe fabrics like silk, velvet, brocade,
jacquard and leather. And it doesn’t
stop at just clothes; accessories play a vital role too. Wear costume jewelry such
as ribbon-tie necklaces adorned with crystals and jewels, chandelier earrings,
cocktail rings and cuffs.
Reminiscent
about the gone by eras and give
your new season a gothic twist. Add a sophisticated touch to your wardrobe,
invest in statement pieces and enjoy this trend as it continues to make waves
in the fashion world.
